Flutter-Belgium Meetup

On the 15th of May 2024  I went to a Flutter Meetup organized by Flutter-Belgium. At the event, during the Lightning talks, multiple developers shared their stories and experiences with Flutter. These ranged from personal projects like a beer-map to bigger projects.

The main stage of the event went to Thijs Pirmez and Enzo Conty.
Mr. Pirmez talked about his  camera detection application, where he explained how he used Flutter, object detection, and optical character recognition to create an app to help truck drivers unload quickly and makes sure the right containers are chosen when (un)loading.

I was most interested in the last presentation by Mr. Conty. The explanation on building apps with an eye on support for various disabilities.
If you didn’t know, I have taken care of people with a wide range of disabilities. Despite this, I never thought of the measures I could take to make my website more accessible. Granted, my projects before that were not designed for public use, but the amount of accessibility options really surprised me. He also indicated how easy you could implement them with Flutter. He also showed a couple of applications developed specifically for people with disabilities and it made me proud to be in this industry and I do hope I can also contribute to help others with my own applications this way.
